Bolaram-Kompally road stinks of GHMC apathy

As the area comes partly under the the GHMC and partly under the gram panchayat, the authorities are passing the buck to each other.

Hyderabad: The Bolaram-Kompally Eoad linking to the Mumbai highway has become an unauthorised dumping yard. A 2-km stretch of the road is filled with garbage which emits a nauseating stink. Residents allege that animal waste from slaughterhouses is also being dumped in the area at night, due to the absence of street lights. The situation worsens with a little rain.

Local resident A.Murali Krishna said on Twitter, "This has become a big problem in the area. While the defence ministry should build a perimeter compound wall facing the road, someone needs to take the responsibility of cleaning the road setbacks. Half of this road is with the GHMC.”

Locals are afraid of the upcoming rainy season as the situation will become unbearable. Mr P.Srinivas Rao, who stays nearby said, “Local chicken centres throw animal waste on the road. This monsoon will be horrible if the practice is not controlled. I will raise a complaint against this in Alwal GHMC.”

Taking advantage of the lack of street lights and CCTV cameras, garbage is being dumped mostly at night. Construction debris, animal bodies, plastic waste generated from functions and a lot of garbage settles here at the end of the day. The deep trench that is right beside the road is filled with garbage and one can see fresh sets of garbage daily in the morning, said Mr K Venkat Swamy, vice-president of the Federation of New Bolaram Colonies.

As the area comes partly under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and partly under the gram panchayat, the authorities are passing the buck to each other, and several complaints given by residents to both the authorities have gone in vain.
