Kerala govt to reimburse medical expenses of Nipah virus affected people

Kozhikode: The Kerala government will reimburse the medical expenses of Nipah virus affected people.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the government will allot the amount according to the report by the district collector.

Since its outbreak this year, Nipah virus has claimed 16 lives in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts.

Assuring that there won't be second phase of outbreak in the state, Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja Teacher today said, "There won't be second phase of outbreak, it's almost under control. But we've to take precautionary measures, we can't predict before incubation period. Yesterday and today all results from laboratory tested negative. Hope there are no more positive results."

Schools, colleges and educational institutes in Kozhikode will remain closed till June 12 in the wake of the outbreak. The date was initially extended to June 5 in Wayanad, Kannur and Malappuram, besides Kozhikode.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has postponed all its written and online exams, scheduled to be held, till June 16.
