Fund crunch delays test track at Bandlaguda RTA
Hyderabad: Lack of funds has delayed the works of the driving test track at Road Transport Authority Hyderabad South office at Bandlaguda near Chandrayangutta.
Last September, the RTA authorities announced plans to set up a driving test track on a two-and-half acre parcel of land adjoining its Bandlaguda office. The need is being felt as the applicants to the office are asked to go to Nagole for the mandatory driving test for obtaining a licence.
Sources said that a rush at the Nagole office is causing a delay in attending the driving test as the applicants are forced to wait for two to three weeks to clear the test. The officials at the RTA office expressed their helplessness as they attributed the delay to the funds to be released for begin the works.
The proposed track is to be equipped with sensors to minimise manual checking and corruption. Officials said that sensors would be installed beneath the driving track and connected to a reader. When there is deviation from the standard path the sensor will point it out.
When contacted, joint commissioner of transport J. Pandurang Naik said that about Rs 25 lakh were released recently by the government for the driving test track works. “The works will be resuming soon and a modern driving test track will be completed in next three months,” he said.
When asked about the delay in the commencement of the works, the official said that there were some administrative constraints in obtaining clearance and release of money from the finance department. He also said that the automated driving test track will not be introduced immediately at the place.
