CBSE: Revaluation only to those seeking rechecking

Process of verification of marks (re-checking) by obtaining photocopy and re-evaluation are inter-related.

KOCHI: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it clear that students who apply for verification or rechecking of marks before June 5 alone can apply for revaluation. CBSE Thiruvananthapuram Regional Officer Tarun Kumar told this newspaper on Sunday that the Board has announced dates for applying for re-evaluation from June 21 to 22 although the date for applying for verification of marks is from June 1 to 5.

“Like every year, this year also parents are confused whether they should apply for re-checking or re-evaluation. In this regard it is clarified that only those who have applied for re-checking up to June 5 will be allowed to apply re-evaluation. Because the process of verification of marks (re-checking) by obtaining photocopy and re-evaluation of marks are inter-related and the student can do it only one after the other,” Mr Tarun Kumar said.

“As on date 3,000 students have applied for re-checking in Class X and 2,000 students have already applied for re-checking in Class XII,” he said adding the Board is in the process of re-checking the answer books. Mr Tarun Kumar also said that this year there is drastic rise in the number of re-checking cases because of scrapping of school-based exam in Class X. Last year in Class X, the figure was around 689 and in Class XII it was 4902.

This is also the first time revaluation has been allowed in Class X. Marking scheme and question paper of all subjects will appear on the website of CBSE by June 20. “After obtaining the photocopy, students can get an idea on the marking scheme and know whether the marks are given are as per marking scheme or not. This year there is no limit of questions to be challenged,” Mr Tarun Kumar said.

“Most of the students feel that after re-evaluation marks will increase but it could be otherwise also. In that case only reduced marks will be applicable,” he said The CBSE Regional Officer said some students feel that they can get copy of answer book under RTI. “In this regard it is clarified that there is no re-evaluation of answer book for copies received by applicants under RTi Act. If a student wants to get the re-evaluation of the copies he must adhere to the online process made by CBSE,” Mr Tarun Kumar added.
