Visakhapatnam: Woman Maoist, 3 others surrender

All the four said they were disillusioned with the Maoist ideology.

Visakhapatnam: A woman Maoist carrying a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head and three armed Maoist militia members of the banned CPI (Maoist), involved in various offences, surrendered before the Vizag Rural cops here on Saturday citing ill-health and a few other reasons such as differences with the leadership and increasing work pressure in the outfit.

The surrendered Maoists were identified as Korra Chellamma, 21, alias Amrutha, a native of Landula area under Pedabayalu mandal in Vizag Pangi Ramana, 36, Pangi Raja Rao, 35 and Tambelu Dasu, 23, All the three militia members are natives of Budaralla area under Koyyuru mandal in Vizag Agency.

Superintendent of Police (Visakha Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma said that Chellamma had joined the Maoists in 2014 due to motivation by the Maoists ideology and she had worked as the Dalam member of Pedabayalu and in the Andhra Odisha Border area as a sentry. Chellamma was involved in various offences including the arson of Gudalam Veedi Ashram in 2015. Six months back, the woman Maoist married her relative and she has been staying in her home town. As she wanted to lead a peaceful life, she surrendered before the cops, Mr Rahul Dev Sharma added.

The armed Maoist militia members of Korukona area committee were involved in an exchange of fire with the security personnel at Marripakalu under Mampa police station limits of Koyyuru mandal in Vizag Agency on May 4, 2016, besides arranging food to red-rebels and also executed Maoist bandh calls by felling trees beside raods and obstructing traffic.
