Airport will be carbon neutral, says BIAL chief

The Kempegowda International Airport( KIA) is only the fourth in the Asia-Pacific region to bag this level of certification.

Bengaluru: “In the face of growing concerns about global warming, efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions have intensified at BIAL. We are now a carbon neutral airport and continue to seek innovative ways of working across various functions to make it progressively more sustainable" said Mr G.V. Sanjay Reddy, Managing Director of the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), which was recently upgraded to “Level 3+ Neutrality,” the highest level of certification for greening of airports, by the Airport Council International. The Kempegowda International Airport( KIA) is only the fourth in the Asia-Pacific region to bag this level of certification.

“As a conscientious corporate we are aware of our responsibilities towards the environment. The BIAL has made concerted efforts towards creating, conserving and ascertaining a safe and clean environment for sustainable development,"

Mr Reddy added, maintaining that ever since the start of airport operations in 2008, BIAL had focused on green principles and on delivering optimum passenger service with minimal impact to the environment.
