Unfit school buses in Hyderabad set to lose permits

The cancellation of permits will be in addition to a Rs 10,000 penalty.

Hyderabad: For the first time in the city, permits of school buses found plying without fitness certificates, will be cancelled.

The cancellation of permits will be in addition to a Rs 10,000 penalty. Schools in the city are all set to reopen in a week and records show that fitness certificates of nearly 9,000 school buses in Greater Hyderabad and parts of rural Ranga Reddy district expired on May 15. But officials said 6,000 from that number have renewed their certificates.

“There must be a driver and an attendant with each vehicle and their details should be given to transport authorities. The age of the driver should be less than 60 and he should have over five years’ experience operating a heavy vehicle. The fitness certificates will be renewed only if these conditions are met,” Joint Transport Commissioner (Hyderabad) T. Raghunath said.
