Revanth Reddy, OU students booked for public meeting

Hyderabad High Court had earlier on Thursday banned political meetings in the campus.

Hyderabad: TS TD working president A. Revanth Reddy, former BJP MLA N.M. Srinivas Reddy and ten student leaders of the Osmania University Students JAC were booked under Sections 290 and 188 of IPC and Section 21/76 of the City Police Act pertaining to public nuisance and disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, after they conducted a public meeting on the campus.

The Hyderabad High Court had earlier on Thursday banned political meetings in the campus. However, students expressed anger at the police for its action, saying that the meeting was not political but organised by students to speak on issues related to academics and administration in state universities. They said that slapping of police cases on students was a remnant of the days in the OU prior to formation of Telangana state when cases were filed on scores of students.

OUJAC leader M. Krishank said, “We conducted a meeting where issues such as unfulfilled promises of KCR on one lakh job notifications, faculty crunch in state universities, failure to appoint V-Cs and poor funding were raised. It was not a political meeting.” We will not let the state government suppress student voices in OU like it is being done in JNU or HCU by the Central government. OUJAC will talk legal recourse on cases booked against students.” OUJAC student leaders against whom cases have been booked include Bala Laxmi, Cheruku Sudhakar, G.V.S. Kalyan, Durgam Bhaskar, Mandala Bhaskar, Sambhasiva Goud, Anji Yadav, K. Anjaneyulu, Daruvu Ellanna and Babu Lal Naik.
