MK Stalin says DMK is Opposition, not rival
Chennai: Appealing to Speaker P. Dhanapal to give equal importance to all parties in the Assembly, Opposition Leader M. K. Stalin on Friday said the DMK would function just as a constructive opposite party, not as a “rival party”.
Speaking in the Assembly after P. Dhanapal and Pollachi Jayaraman were unanimously elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, Mr Stalin said both the ruling party and the opposition party have “genuine responsibility” in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
“For the first time in the history of Tamil Nadu, the DMK has 89 members becoming a strong opposition party. As far as the DMK is concerned, we will (function just as) an opposition party, not (as a) rival party,” Mr Stalin said, adding that the ruling party has the responsibility to create a good opposition party.
He also said the DMK would work with the AIADMK Government in fighting for the rights of Tamil Nadu.
“We have immense confidence in the Speaker and Deputy Speaker that they would guide the members and the House in the right manner,” Mr Stalin
said.
