Bengaluru: Despite odds they cleared PUC exam and CET
Bengaluru: Both of them have several similarities. Both of them are brought up by their mothers who are working as the house maids. But now both of them have made their family proud by scoring high marks in both II PUC science final examination and CET examination.
Ms. Vennila, daughter of a housemaid and a student of Christel House, scored 97% in her 12th final examination. Raised by a single parent, Vennila scored a centum in two subjects and a 95% in English. Her dream is to become an engineer. She is the first generation learners from highly impoverished background. Now she wants to pursue her dream course in engineering in any of the elite technical institutes of the city.
According to Raju Shahani, Managing Director, Christel House, we have achieved great results – probably the best in all the 8 years that our kids have been taking the exam. “The success is solely due to all the hard work put in by our education head, Jaya George, and the teachers, who gave up their spare time and stayed till late evenings and during weekends to make sure that the kids studied under their supervision. This is also proof that anything is possible with perseverance and hard work,” he said.
“The bigger challenge that the school overcame was ensuring that children that they enrolled for education in kindergarten didn't drop out half way through to this first milestone due to compelling pressures at home,” he added.
Bhargav Shrikrishna, a student of Vijaya College of the city also over come from similar challenge. He have scored 94% in his II PUC final examination (science stream). With his father bed ridden since years, his mother have brought him up with difficulty by working in other homes. Bhargav's brother is studying in his II PUC. “I want to pursue engineering through my CET ranking,' he said.
