Jagan asks officials to provide relief to all rain-hit farmers

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to provide relief to all the affected farmers who suffered crop damage or loss due to the untimely rainfall.

“Ensure that not a single affected farmer is left out of the government's relief offer in the state,” the Chief Minister said at a review meeting he held with officials to assess the impact of rainfall on crops, at his camp office here on Thursday.

The officials briefed the Chief Minister on the extent of damage across districts, based on preliminary reports. “Get reports of damage or loss to the farmers from the village secretariats on a regular basis. Purchase soaked and discoloured paddy from the farmers,” he said.

He advised officials to complete the enumeration of damage or loss to the crops and prepare a list of the affected farmers. “Put the lists on display at the village secretariats for social audit to ascertain if any name of the affected farmers is missing. Once such issues are brought to the notice of the officials, they would accommodate those names too in the lists for relief,” he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy further asked officials to expedite paddy purchase for the rabi season and said there should be no complaint from any quarter that the government was not purchasing paddy from the farmers. “Officials must set up a toll-free number so that the farmers could lodge complaints. Review the situation on a regular basis and resolve the problems quickly,” he said.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Work in a way that the farmers feel happy for the kind of support they received from the state government.”
