Centre proposes new option for division of AP Bhavan

Hyderabad: The Centre has proposed a new option for the division of properties of AP Bhavan in New Delhi between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, which is opposite the recommendation made by the Telangana government.

According to the minutes of the meeting that were circulated on Thursday, the Union home ministry proposed giving Telangana the 7.64-acre Pataudi House property while offering Andhra Pradesh the land, buildings like the Godavari and the Sabari blocks, and a nursing facility on 12.09 acres.

This goes against the Telangana state government’s demand that the land, Godavari and Sabari blocks and other buildings, and a nursing facility on 12.09 acres be handed over to it, while the Pataudi House and land spread over 7.64 acres be given to Andhra Pradesh.

The minutes were recorded in the meeting held by Centre with the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments in New Delhi on April 26 to discuss the bifurcation of AP Bhavan.

"Special chief secretary, Government of AP, stated that there are three options for division of AP Bhavan in Delhi and if the TS government responds. The AP government will take a final view. Special chief secretary, Government of Telangana, stated that based on the discussions, TS government has arrived at two options. In the first option, TS government wants the entire piece of land consisting of Godavari block, Sabari block and Nursing Hostel along with existing buildings (12.09 acres) excluding the Pataudi House (7.64 acres). As it will be more than TS government's share as per population ratio, TS government will make financial adjustment at market value to AP government for the excess land.

Special CS, AP government responded that since a new option has been proposed by the TS government, they will take it forward for a decision."

The Centre justified the new option by contending that the share of land would be near about equal to that of the TS government share in population ratio and transaction cost will be minimal. "Any excess share will be reimbursed to by the Andhra Pradesh government to Telangana," the note on minutes released by the Union home ministry stated.
