Vijayawada: School bus staff attack activist
Vijayawada: The staff of a bus belonging to a corporate school allegedly attacked a social activist for filming them transporting students to school during summer vacations.
Y.V. Murali Krishna, a businessman, is also a social worker well known in Gudivada of Krishna district. He has been fighting for child rights against corporate schools.
On Thursday, he lodged a complaint with the Deputy Education Officer against schools that are conducting summer classes even though the mercury levels are climbing by the day.
When the DEO did not respond, he went down on his knees, urging her to protect child rights from corporate schools.
The DEO told him to get out of her chambers. Following this, Mr Murali Krishna tried to capture a video of the children being taken to school in the bus. When he was doing so, the staff noticed and attacked him.
Mr Murali Krishna proceeded to lodge a complaint with the police. Speaking to this newspaper, he said that his fight was not against any particular individual or school.
He said that he wants to protect child rights and almost all private schools, barring a few, are violating the norms set by the government and going against the directions of the apex court.
