TTD to campaign for ‘darshan dress code’
Tirupati: A campaign on ‘Dress code for darshan of Lord Venkateswara’ will be taken up to inform pilgrims about the sanctity of traditional dress code in Tirumala, said TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal.
When EO was attending to the calls of pilgrim from across the country during the monthly ‘Dial your EO’ programme which took place at Annamaiah Bhavan in Tirumala on Friday, Mr Srinivas, a caller from Tadepallegudem, brought to the notice of EO about the need to promote the importance of wearing traditional dress by the pilgrims.
Responding to the caller, the EO said TTD has already implemented traditional dress code for men and women devotees for certain categories including Arjitha Sevas, VIP break, Rs 300 special entry darshan ticket holders strictly for the past eight years.
“As the percentage of Sarva Darshan and Divya Darshan pilgrims is more compared to paid sevas, we have not insisted dress code for them since they have to wait long hours in queues and compartments,” he said.
However, the EO assured the caller that TTD will slowly take up a campaign on dress code so that even the general pilgrims follow the traditional dress code, he added.
Another pilgrim caller informed that the sub-temple at Kosuvaripalle does not have archakas to perform kainkaryams.
