Kochi: Viswanatha Menon no more

Elected to Lok Sabha from Ernakulam in 1967 Mr. Menon also had a stint in Rajya Sabha as a CPM member

KOCHI: Former finance minister and veteran political leader V Viswanatha Menon died at a private hospital in Kochi on Friday morning. He was 93 years old.

Starting as a Congress activist at an early age, Mr. Menon, was one of the few surviving individuals, with rich experience in political activism having close links with freedom struggle, communist movement and post-independent politics.

Elected to Lok Sabha from Ernak-ulam in 1967 Mr. Menon also had a stint in Rajya Sabha as a CPM member. He was finance minister in the Government headed by E.K. Nayanar from 1987 to 1991.

The body of Mr. Menon was cremated with full state honours at Ravipuram crematorium. He is survived by wife K Prabhavaty Men-on and children V Ajith Narayanan and Dr Madhava Chandran.
