Hyderabad: Balapur, Jalpally to get water line from June 5

Board to use water from Salaala reservoir.

Hyderabad: To mitigate the severe water crisis in Jalpally municipality and Balapur village, the Metropolitan Water Board has decided to use water from the Salaala reservoir to supply about 50,000 residents.

Water Board managing director M. Dana Kishore announced on Friday that a new line will be operational from June 5 for this purpose.

He was responding to a representation from Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi seeking water supply to the area.

Mr Kishore said that up to 1.5 lakh new drinking water connections would be provided to households.

Work on the the main pipeline will be taken up at a cost of `350 crore. Another Rs 4,000 crore worth of main pipeline work has to be done and the detailed project report was ready. Proposals have been sent to the government for its approval for this project.

Residents of the municipalities of Boduppal, Peerzadiguda, Balapur, Meerpet, Jalpally, Badangpet, Pedda Amberpet and in the mandals of Patancheruvu, RC Puram, Medchal, Quthubullapur, Shamirpet, Keesara, Ghatsekar, Hayathnagar, Ibrahimpatnam, Maheswaram, Saroornagar, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar and Jinnaram will get 30 million gallons of water a day, Mr Kishore said.

Water would be supplied to Jalpally municipality and Balapur village from Salaala reservoir by June 5, when the pipeline work could be completed.
