Alappuzha: Cops intensify job fraud probe
Alappuzha: Cops have intensified the investigation into a job fraud following the arrest of five people including a woman from Cheravally near Kayamkulam on Thursday.
Kayamkulam police arrested Shymon P. Paul, 40, Vattakunnel, Kollad, Kottayam, Bijoy Mathew, 35, Chellithara, Olassa, Kottayam, Manu, 25, Kulakarayil, Kalavoor, Alappuzha, Manu Francis, 27, Pulithara, Ponnarimangalam, Ernakulam and Sony Thomas, 24, Kandathinkal, Theeyadikkal, Pathanam- thitta, who were habitual offenders, from a house at Cheravally while they were interviewing job aspirants in police uniform after a group of youngsters lodged a complaint.
The gang had turned a rented house as their office with a board as ‘Office of the Traffic Trained Police Force’ with its head office in Thiruvananthapuram.
The police said they had a history of indulging in the same kind of job fraud. Last year, the police arrested them for the same crime in Kottayam and were out on bail.
It said the investigation would establish their links, after getting custody of them, including if they had any support from within the department.
The gang, the police said, had collected Rs 4,500 from a job seeker as registration fee and fleeced Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 for the posts of additional sub-inspectors and sub-inspectors.
Fake police badges, uniforms, seal and letterheads and clearance certificates were seized from them. Judicial First class Magistrate Court Kayamkulam remanded them in judicial custody.
