Action after Lok Sabha poll results, says Dinesh Gundurao

On a tie-up with the JD(S) for the coming local body elections, he said it was upto the local leaders to take a call on this.

Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundurao argued on Friday that it would be premature to take action against the former Congress legislators of Mandya for attending a dinner with independent candidate, Sumalatha Ambareesh recently in the city, before the results of the Lok Sabha elections were declared on May 23 as there was no way of knowing as of now whether the "coalition' dharma" was followed or not in the constituency.

Speaking to reporters after seeking an explanation from the ex- Congress MLAs for their presence at the dinner allegedly hosted by Ms Sumalatha, he said they had clarified it was organised by suspended Congress leader, Sachidananda to celebrate his birthday.

“I have so far not seen the video itself, but only what has been carried by the newspapers. Besides, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has not commented on it. I don't know whether he has brought this episode to the notice of AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka affairs, K C Venugopal and demanded action against the Congress leaders. Under these circumstances, the party has no intentions of taking any immediate action against its former Mandya legislators," he explained.

On a tie-up with the JD(S) for the coming local body elections, he said it was upto the local leaders to take a call on this. "In previous elections, the Congress had fought independently and this could be followed again. Ultimately, local leaders will take a call in the matter," he added.
