IAS officer moves 'Hyderabad High Court' over ED case on him
Hyderabad: Mr B.P. Acharya, former managing director of the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, has moved the Hyderabad High Court seeking to quash the case registered by the Enforcement Directorate against him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the illegal investments case of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The enforcement directorate filed a charge-sheet against him in the episode of the land allotments to the Indu Tech Zone Ltd.
Mr T. Pradyumna Kumar Reddy, the counsel for the petitioner appearing before Justice Shameem Akhter, contended that the act of the ED Court in taking cognisance of the charge sheet without sanction from the government was illegal.
Mr K. Manmadha Rao, counsel for the enforcement directorate, submitted that the post of managing director of the APIIC did not fall under the definition of the public servant and hence there was no prior sanction required to prosecute the petitioner.
The judge adjourned the case after summer vacation by directing the ED to file the counter affidavit.
