Health minister inaugurates simulation lab at ICH

The health minister inaugurated the training centre for equipping doctors to be in better position to treat children at the time of an emergency.

Chennai: Health minister C. Vijayabaskar inaugurated the first simulation laboratory for training doctors in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at Institute of Child Health (ICH) on Thursday.

The simulation laboratory has been set up at ICH at a cost of Rs 3.60 crore, where an additional facility of a modular cardiac surgery theatre, Cathlab, and a laboratory for inherited disorders and molecular diagnosis lab would be set up at a cost of Rs 30.82 crore soon.

The health minister inaugurated the training centre for equipping doctors to be in better position to treat children at the time of an emergency. The event at ICH also marked the first year anniversary of out patient department at ICH, an initiative undertaken taken by the state in partnership with the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).

The government is implementing the “Tamil Nadu Urban Health Care Project” with the assistance of JICA which would improve 11 medical colleges and 10 chief government hospitals spread across 17 districts of the state which would cost '1,634 crore, said Vijayabaskar.

He also said the initiative of breast milk banks at ICH would be expanded to other medical college hospitals and government district headquarters in a phased manner.
