Chennai: Dismissing rumours surrounding death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, V. Dhivakaran, brother of jailed V. K. Sasikala, said that Jaya’s death was natural one.
Speaking to reporters after appearing in the Justice Arumugasamy panel, which is probing death of former CM J Jayalalithaa on Thursday, he said Jayalaliathaa’s death was a natural one. And there is not doubt regarding this.
When asked about meeting of ministers and officials with Jayalalithaa in the hospital, he said “I am not aware of this”.
“I heard ministers might have met her over Cauvery water dispute”, he said.
A few hours before the death of Jayalalithaa, O. Panneerselvam was chosen as CM and it was not done in haste.
Several persons were in the race to CM post. However, he refused to divulge more about the issue since he considered this was not an appropriate time. He also refused to answer a question relating to taking Jayalalithaa to other countries for treatment.
Earlier, Justice Arumughaswamy grilled Dhivakaran for nearly four hours. During the proceedings, Dhivakaran informed the one-man panel that he went to Apollo hospital to meet her only once and he was unable to meet her as she was sleeping at 11 pm. Dhivakaran also informed the panel that he went to the hospital on night of December 5 after knowing that her condition became worse. When Justice Arumughaswamy questioned him regarding incidents on the night of December 5, Dhivakaran said the then Chef Secretary Ramamohan Rao informed that the Governor had requested him to choose next the CM. Based on this, the Chief Secretary, VK Sasikala and others held discussions. When asked whether he has any suspicion over death of Jayalalithaa, Dhivakaran said her death was a natural one. And there is no doubt about it.
