10,000 run on 'Kempegowda International Airport' runway to mark 10th anniversary
Bengaluru: The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) will celebrate its 10th anniversary by organising a 10k run on the runway on May 8.
This is the first time such an event will be held on an airport runway in the country. The Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) had called in for registration and received more than 4,000 applications.
A BIAL official said, “We had asked people above 18-year-old to register through our official website and the response was huge. We had also asked the applicants to mention about their previous running or marathon experience. We will select only 100 participants.”
He said they have obtained the permission from the aviation authorities concerned and participants will have to submit valid government identity proofs.
When asked the official if the event would affect flight services, he said, “The run will be held on Tuesday from 12.45 pm to 2 pm and on every Tuesday during that particular period, the runway is shut down for maintenance. So the flights will not be affected. The runway is about 4,000 metres long.”
