Telangana: Old rule of cancelling licences to continue
Hyderabad: The Transport Department will be continuing with its earlier system, which enables cancelling licences in some circumstances such as fatal accidents and drunken driving.
Joint Transport Commissioner J. Pandurang Naik said that the rule on cancelling driving licences for severe violations began last year.
“We are receiving data of drivers involved in fatal accidents, drunken driving cases, over-speeding and other severe offences from the Traffic and Law & Order police and canceling that particular motorist’s licence for six months,” Mr Naik said.
He said as many as 1,251 licences were cancelled in all the five zones of Hyderabad city in the last 12 months. Mr Naik said the Transport Department was ready for implementing the new rule and that there was a delay with the Traffic wings.
“Whenever the traffic police begin implementing penalty points’ system, we’ll continue the old system in cases of severe traffic offences apart from implementing new rule,” he said.
