Karnataka: Drive against overcharging mineral water

Khader also said that raids would continue on five star hotels and shops at airport.

Bengaluru: Taking serious note of malls and some shops fleecing customers while selling mineral water, the food and civil supplies department raided many establishments in the city on Wednesday.

Disclosing this here, Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader said that 30 teams of department officials raided 188 multiplex and shops in malls across the state. These shops and multiplexes were charging Rs 40-60 for a bottle of mineral water.

"We have registered 48 cases of this nature. In the rest too, we register cases. These malls and multiplexes cannot charge more than the MRP on the water bottle. Still they are doing so. To rein in this, we will also write letters to Union Consumer Affairs Ministry to take action across the country," he said.

Mr Khader also said that raids would continue on five star hotels and shops at airport. In Bengaluru alone, raids were conducted in 35 spots. Raids were also conducted In Kalaburagi (90 places) and in Mysuru (10).
