Bengaluru: Nrupathunga Road work on slow track

One half of the road concretised, open for traffic.

BENGALURU: It has been more than two months since the crowded Nrupathunga Road was closed for traffic. While one side of the road has been concretised, work on the other side is yet to be completed.

The BBMP closed the road on February 27 and was confident of finishing the works and opening the road for traffic by mid-April. But it is past the deadline, and the pace of works does not suggest that it would be opened by this month-end too.

Bala, a techie, who uses the road to go to office, said, “First, the entire stretch was closed. Workers completed one half of the road quite fast and opened it for traffic. But on the other side, the work is not progressing fast enough. A large portion of the road is yet to be concretised.”

Apart from commuters, even nature lovers wish the works get completed soon as the traffic on Nrupathunga Road is being diverted through Cubbon Park towards Hudson Circle.

A BBMP official said that the work is continuing on the other side of the road. “Laying of concrete roads does not take much time, but curing takes one month. If it isn't cured properly, there are chances that the road getting damaged,” he said.

The road has been taken up under TenderSURE project and once done, it will last at least another 30 years and will be pothole free, he said.
