Mumbai: The CBI on Tuesday continued its arguments against former media baron Peter Mukerjea’s bail application, insisting he was part of the conspiracy, and the phone calls between Peter and his wife Indrani proved it.
The same day the court allowed the central agency to further interrogate Indrani Mukerjea in her daughter Sheena Bora’s murder case. According to sources, the CBI sought the court’s permission to further interrogate Indrani in judicial custody in Byculla jail for four more days and the judge H.S. Mahajan allowed this application.
The team of advocate Bharat Badami and Kavita Patil on behalf of the CBI continued their arguments opposing Peter’s bail and said that he was part of conspiracy. The CBI counsels also argued that the phone calls between Indrani and Peter were about the murder conspiracy. According to the prosecution, it was a running commentary to Peter. They claimed that Indrani gave all the information to Peter and he was part and parcel of the conspiracy and there was a conversation for 15 minutes between the two at the time of disposing of Sheena’s body. Advocate Badami also pointed out that there were no calls at odd hours before or after this.
During arguments the judge, however, sought to know from the prosecution as to what is the motive of Sanjeev Khanna (Indrani’s former husband) in the criminal conspiracy with Indrani when her current husband Peter was also there. The prosecution raised a question as to why Peter did not help his son Rahul in finding Sheena if he was in good terms with certain top police officials.
On Tuesday, the CBI claimed that everything was normal when Peter was under the impression that Sheena was Indrani’s sister but everything changed when he came to know that they were mother and daughter and then the murder conspiracy was hatched.
The CBI’s counsel reiterated that the reason behind the murder was that there could have been property problem if Rahul (Peter’s son from his earlier marriage) and Sheena got married. The CBI would continue its argument on bail plea on Wednesday.
