High blood pressure claims pregnant mother, child
Hyderabad: High-blood pressure detected in a 30-year-old pregnant woman led to the death of her child in the womb early on Tuesday morning. Tragically, the woman, Mamta, also succumbed while undergoing treatment at city’s Koti Hospital.
Mamta had come to Koti Maternity Hospital from Kandakur mandal in Ranga Reddy district and was admitted into care at 1.45am in the morning. She was suffering from acute breathlessnes, was sweating heavily and also complained of general uneasiness throughout. An ultrasound scan at the hospital soon revealed that the baby had died in the womb.
A senior gynecologist at Koti Hospital said, “Her blood pressure was very high and doctors immediately prescribed medication to stabilise her, but the results were not encouraging. The patient passed away while undergoing treatment.”
It has been revealed that Mamta had been full-term pregnant and hadn’t undergone any crucial prenatal check-ups either at a public health centre or an area hospital near her home in Kandakur mandal.
Shortly after the deaths, on Tuesday morning family members and others started protesting against what they claimed was medical negligence. Hospital officials had to call in the police to help control the situation.
