Act on power broker, M Karunanidhi tells PM Modi
Madurai: Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a good friend and an able administrator, DMK chief M Karunanidhi requested him to take action against P Anbunathan from whose house in Karur the police unearthed '4.8 crore unaccounted money recently.
“Anbunathan is a political broker, who has been helping the AIADMK ministers in various corruption activities,” Karunanidhi charged while campaigning for the DMK and alliance party candidates who are contesting in southern districts for the upcoming Assembly election, at Madurai on Tuesday.
He said he had sent word to the PM through a messenger about the corrupt activities of the mean but no action was taken so far. “At least now I hope that PM will wake up and crack down on the racketeers,” he said.
Stating Sethusamudram project alone could bring developments to Madurai and its neighbouring districts, Karunanidhi said that though it was not inlcuded in the DMK election manifesto, he would mobilise the Tamil Nadu people to implement the project at any cost.
When the DMK tried to implement the project during the previous regime, it was stalled citing the Rama Setu issue, he pointed out. “Today I promise that I will face any challenges to implement it,” said Karunanidhi.
He also charged the AIADMK government with involvement in the granite scam. When the AIADMK ruled the state during 1991-1996, the present CM had introduced rule 39 to give leases to persons close to them.” DMK will expose this once they come to power,” he said.
Karunanidhi also mocked the AIADMK government for cheating the people through false promises like installation of a Mother Tamil statue at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Madurai. “I have been looking for it since I came to Madurai, but I am not able to find it,” he said.
