Vijayawada: Mega garlands cost Rs 50,000 during this election season

Vijayawada: There is a huge demand for marigold and roses during this election season as the leaders of various parties are accorded a ceremonious welcome with garlands and bouquets. They are also felicitated with garlands.

Earlier, functionaries used to get big garlands at public meetings and rallies but now, mega garlands, each costing anything between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000, are the fad.

The flower market in Vijayawada is the biggest in the state and the prices of marigold and roses has increased exorbitantly since the election notification was released.

In the last two days, there was a shortage of rose and marigold flowers and so, in some areas, plastic garlands were arranged.

A flower merchant, Sk Jani, said that flowers are imported from Bengaluru, Kolar and other parts of Karnataka, Kuppam, Kadiyam and other areas in AP.

He said flowers are supplied to all the 13 districts from Vijayawada.
