Kollam to have green protocol implemented
KOLLAM: Kollam district administration has ordered government offices to implement green protocol. Among the instructions to be followed, the officials should only use steel lunch boxes and avoid plastic wraps. The direction was given by district collector Dr S. Karthikeyan in Harita Keralam mission’s assessment meeting presided by district panchayat president C. Radhamani.
Based on green protocol, the garbage disposal should be carried out scientifically without mixing bio and non-bio degradable wastes. Separate collecting facilities for sorted out garbage should be employed in these offices. The meeting also has taken decision to give special training to all department heads in the initial phase and to spread the green protocol message to their subordinates.
Earlier, the auditoriums in Kollam have decided to eliminate the use of plastic. The auditorium owners association has declared their wholehearted support to the endeavour by deciding to give strict instruction to the organisers of programmes including marriages to promote the use of reusable utensils instead of disposable plastic glasses and other non-biodegradable materials. Some 180 auditoriums across the district will go green abiding by the green protocol.
