KCR urges PM to speak to Supreme Court CJ on Dalit row
HYDERABAD: Telangana State Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has condemned the attacks on Dalits that took place while Dalits across the country were conducting Bharat bandh on Monday.
The Chief Minister gave a call that the entire country should stand with the Dalits who were economically, socially and politically suppressed for generations together.
Mr Rao reminded that special rights are being incorporated in the country’s Constitution and successive Central governments had enacted laws to protect the rights and interests of the Dalits. He said the governments had the duty to ensure that the Laws and Acts made for the Dalits should be implemented properly.
“The Judiciary should take into account the feelings, agony and opinion of the Dalits,” he said.
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should speak to the Supreme Court Chief Justice in this regard. The CM urged the Prime Minister to place before the Sup-reme Court about how the guidelines issued by the Apex Court are pu-nching holes in the SC/ST Atrocities Prevention Act.
“The Central government should take a sympathetic view towards the ongoing agitation launched by the Dalits who are crestfallen with the SC guidelines,” he said, pointing out that the Centre should repose the faith among the Dalits and assure them that it stands with them.
The CM said that the Dalits are feeling that the recent Supreme Court guidelines are diluting the Laws and Acts meant for their protection. “The Judiciary should take into account the feelings, agony and opinion of the Dalits,” he said.
“The governments, which are to ensure the implementation of these Acts, should also respond to the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court reflecting the larger Dalit sentiment,” KCR said.
