Chemist shops across Tamil Nadu remained closed
Chennai: Extending support to the protest by the traders association Vanikar Sangagalin Peramaipu against the Central government authorities for failing to form the Cauvery River Management Board as against the Supreme Court order, chemist shops across the state remained closed on Tuesday from 6am to 6pm.
Members of Tamil Nadu Chemists and Druggists Association participated in the protest against the delay in the formation of Cauvery River Management Board in Tamil Nadu. Around 30,000 medical shops out of the total 39,560 medical shops in the state from 31-district association affiliated to TNCDA strike services.
“We join hands with all residents, trade associations and agitators who are protesting against the authorities who have failed to act on the Supreme Court's order. The issue needs to be resolved for the benefit of Tamil Nadu,” said S. Ramachandran, president of Tamil Nadu Chemists' and Druggists' Association.
However, the strike did not affect the medical services in the government and private hospitals and pharmacies remained open in government hospitals. Private pharmacies were also equipped with medicines to tackle emergency situations.
