Scanner showed irregularities in Shruthi's abdominal area, says Federal Police
Bengaluru: A day after Deccan Chronicle carried a report of alleged racial profiling at the Frankfurt Airport, where a Bengaluru woman Shruthi Basappa (30) claimed that she was asked to strip in front of her four-year-old daughter for security check by the airport security personnel, the Federal Police Directorate, Frankfurt Airport, has clarified that Ms Basappa was asked to “raise her dress when the safety scanner showed irregularities in the abdominal area”.
The police said that air safety checks are carried out on each passenger, and Ms Basappa was not singled out. The procedure is the same according to specific international requirements for all people and is technically supported by the security scanner, the directorate said in an official reply to DC.
Denying racial profiling at the airport, the Federal Police said that they deeply regretted the fact that Ms Basappa felt the security control at Frankfurt airport was a “burden”.
The incident came to light after Ms Basappa put out a post on her Facebook account on March 30. She wrote that the security personnel at the Frankfurt Airport asked her to remove clothes as part of security check and alleged it to be a case of racial profiling. She said that the incident happened on March 29 when she was flying from Bengaluru to Iceland.
