Rajahmundry: Corporators stand by Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary's side

36 tell Naidu to respect senior MLA or they will quit.

Rajahmundry: As many as 36 disgruntled TD corporators of the Rajahmundry Municipal Corporation threatened to quit if their leader, Rajahmundry Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary, was not given a respectable position either in the government or in the party, which was befitting of his seniority, within the next three days.

Of the 50-member Council, 36 members are from TD. The TD corporators held a meeting on Monday, to discuss how Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had ignored their leader during the Cabinet expansion. They felt that Mr Choudhry was one of the senior-most leaders in the party, and that he had been loyal to the party since its inception under the leadership of late N.T. Rama Rao. The corporators sent a letter to the Chief Minister, urging him to provide a suitable position to their leader, and threatening to quit if no action was taken.

The TD corporators also boycotted the scheduled Budget session in the Council, as a sign of protest against the humiliation meted out to their leader. Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai deferred the session without passing the Budget, for want of a quorum in the Council. Vasireddy Rambabu, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipal Corporation Council, said, “All 36 TD corporators appeal to Mr Naidu to accommodate Gorantla Buchaiah Choudhary in a respectable position befitting his stature, either in the party or in the government. If not, we will all quit from our elected posts. We don’t have any second thoughts on our demand.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinarajappa went to Mr Choudhary’s house to convince the sulking leader. When contacted, Mr Choudhary said, “I have been in the party for a long time. I have expressed my protest by quitting from the position of party state general secretary. I am straightforward in whatever I want to say, and I do so. The issue ends there. It is up to the party leadership to decide. I had asked our corporators to attend the Budget session; I was told that they did not attend.” Another TD leader Jyothula Nehru who switched loyalties from the YSR Congress in anticipation of a Cabinet berth, is also crestfallen. The TD leadership has assured him that they will look into his grievance, and he is waiting for an outcome.
