MK Stalin promises to solve fishermen's problems

Both the factions were indulging in corruption, without worrying about the welfare of people especially fishermen, he charged.

Chennai: DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Monday met the representatives of fishermen at RK Nagar and sought their support, promising to find solutions to all their problems, besides setting up of a enquiry commission to question AIADMK (Amma) general secretary V.K. Sasikala and former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa.
Referring to the poll promises and bypoll manifestos of the two factions- AIADMK (Amma) and AIADMK (Puratchithalavi Amma), he said the list of promises only showed that they had not done anything for the constituency.

Citing the allegations of former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, he asked “Why Panneerselvam was silent during the 75 days of treatment for her and when he was the Chief Minister for 64 days?”. Stalin also promised an enquiry commission to question both Panneerselvam and AIADMK (Amma) general secretary V.K. Sasikal on the death of Jayalalithaa.

Both the factions were indulging in corruption, without worrying about the welfare of people especially fishermen, he charged. Recalling the lathi charge on fishermen at the end of the jallikattu protest in the Marina, he said the fishermen only gave protection to the students and youth, but the police attacked the fishermen and burnt the fishing market.

He also cited the problems caused by the oil spill at Ennore and said the fishermen community underwent great sufferings due to the delay in cleaning the ocean. The AIADMK was also running the corporation, but did not provide basic facilities like drinking water and drainage connections to the people, he alleged.

He said the DMK wanted the transfer of a few officials in RK Nagar, but they had shifted 30 officials. Commending the move, he described it as a victory for his party and said both the AIADMK factions would lose their deposit amount in the bypoll.
