Karnataka High Court dismisses Traffic Ramaswamy plea over Sasikala

The petitioner had sought directions to restrain ministers of the Tamil Nada government from meeting Sasikala at the prison.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Monday dismissed the petition filed by social activist and public interest litigator from Tamil Nadu, who had approached the court seeking several directions in respect of convicted Sasikala, who is serving her remaining jail term in the disproportionate assets case at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. The petitioner had sought directions to restrain ministers of the Tamil Nada government from meeting Sasikala at the prison. The state government submitted that the visitors were allowed to meet Sasikala as per the Karnataka Prison Manual and that there is no violation. The court took into account the government’s submission and dismissed the petition.The petitioner had sought transfer of Sasikala to Tumakuru central prison, meant for convicted women prisoners in the state.

HC takes BBMP to task
Expressing its displeasure over the functioning of the BBMP, the High Court took the civic body to task for not filling a big pit in a residential area near Arakere Gate. The court also slammed the Palike for not taking action against the culprits who are responsible for digging up such a pit, putting the lives of many in danger. The court said that the palike seems to have gone into a ‘coma’.The case related to a pit allegedly dug by a builder who has constructed an apartment in the locality.
