Congress lashes Centre on RTI applications

Suggestions also may be sent by April 15, via email to Ms. Preeti Khanna, Under Secretary (RTI), North Block, at usrti-dopt@nic.in

Hyderabad: Congress on Monday lashed out at the Centre for proposing a new set of rules for processing RTI applications.

Suggestions on the changes have been called from all quarters by April 15. The opposition however, are not please.

“By trying to alter RTI rules what is the intention? Right to Inform citizens or Right to Intimidate them?,” senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel asked on Twitter.

The proposed rules have been placed by the Department of Personnel and Training on its website for opinions from the public.

But activists said time given was less. “The time that has been provided to the citizens and concerned parties — for changes and suggestions — is very less. Also, there has been no official press release announcing the draft rules. How will people even know that something like has been placed on a website and that it is now open for public opinion?” asked an activist.
