Rs 1.24 crore seized in T Nagar
The flying squad seized the cash and asked the carriers to submit proper documents to claim the cash from the treasury.
Chennai: A flying squad deployed by the election commission on Sunday seized Rs 1.24 crore from a car on Bazullah Road in T Nagar. According to revenue officials, occupants of the vehicle claimed that they were taking the money to fill in ATM machines of various banks across the city. But they failed to produce proper accounts and also documents to prove that the money was meant for ATM machines.
Cash is not dispensed to ATM machines through private transporters in cars and are usually sent out with security companies, which run special cash vans for the task. The flying squad seized the cash and asked the carriers to submit proper documents to claim the cash from the treasury.
