Chennai: Car drags bike for half km after collision, three killed
Chennai: A two-year-old boy and his parents died while his sister was seriously injured when the bike on which they were traveling was hit by a car coming in the opposite direction. The car dragged the bike nearly 500 metres on the Sriperumbudur — Thiruvallur road in neighbouring Kancheepuram on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Blessan and his mother Janoh, 30. Raja, head of the family and daughter Nissi, 7, were admitted to the Chennai Rajiv Gandhi government general hospital with grievous injuries. The bike was burnt in the impact of the accident. The driver of the car, a Toyota Etios, escaped from the scene immediately after the accident. Local people told the police that the car driver was in intoxicated condition. Raja, a carpenter, and his family had left home in Mugalivakkam on Sunday morning to attend church in Singaperumalkoil. After attending the service there, the family on their Bajaj Pulsar was going to Thiruvallur to meet a relative when the accident happened.
“The driver could not stop the car immediately after the accident and the car dragged the bike nearly 500 metres. The impact had created a hole in the petrol tank and leaking fuel had triggered a fire which damaged the bike completely,” the police noted. Sriperumbudur police are now on the lookout for the driver of the car involved in the accident.
