Changing weather in Hyderabad sees illnesses rise
Hyderabad: The ongoing temperature fluctuations have seen a rise in cases of fever, cold and cough cases in the city with the Fever hospital recording more than 150 cases and private hospitals seeing at least 30 to 70 cases per day.
Doctors say that the sudden fall in the temperatures recently has resulted in a lot of children and senior citizens getting affected.
General physician Dr S. Shanker said, “The fluctuations in the weather are affecting small children who are suffering from fever, cough and cold. These variations are affecting them badly as they are still growing. On top of it, due to the increased temperatures, there is a lot of consumption of ice, packed fruit juices and also cold beverages. These are causing problems.”
Parents meanwhile say that the increased temperatures are forcing them to give cold-water bottles in schools as children complain that the water gets hot due to the high temperatures in school.
Along with the children, senior citizens who are immune-compromised or suffering from diabetes, hypertension, and also transplant patients, have a tough time in the heat.
Urologist Dr Narendra Phani said, “There is a rise in urinary tract infections in summers. Clinical evidence has shown a marked increase in cases in senior citizens, especially those who are suffering from diseases. With a weak bladder at an advancing age, the problems are very high and during summers the chances of infections also increase. Timely intervention in terms of medication is required for these patients.”
