Telangana: 271 education scholarships cleared

The state government had allocated Rs 100 crore for CM's Overseas Education Scholarship scheme.

Hyderabad: The screening committee has cleared 271 out of 415 applications received for the Chief Minister’s Overseas Education Scholarship for the second batch of 2018. The committee has referred 45 applications to the state-level committee for finalisation. Under the scholarship, candidates belonging to the minority communities are provided monetary aid of Rs 20 lakh to pursuing post graduate and doctorate courses in certain foreign countries. Candidates are selected twice a year as universities in foreign countries admit candidates in two spells — spring and fall. The state government had allocated Rs 100 crore for this scheme in 2018-19.

The screening committee consists of Mr Shahnawaz Qasim, director, minorities welfare, Prof. S.A. Shukoor, secretary, Urdu Academy, Mr Waheeduddin, managing director, Minorities Finance Corporation, and Mr Shafiullah, secretary, TMREIS.

The committee scrutinised 415 applications received from 26 districts including 294 from Hyderabad. From the capital, 206 applicants have been declared eligible. From 26 districts, 121 candidates applied, and 65 applications were cleared by the screening committee. Details of the selected candidates have been sent to the Centre for Good Governance for further process and release of amount.
