Coimbatore: President Ram Nath Kovind landed in the textile city on Sunday. Security in Coimbatore has been stepped up in view of his two-day visit and the city police have announced traffic diversions.
The President’s engagements here include the presentation of colours to two units of the Indian Air Force and also to participate as chief guest for Maha Shivaratri celebrations organised by Isha Yoga Center. While the former will be organised at the Air Force Station in Sulur here on Monday morning, the latter will be hosted at the Velliangiri foothills on the outskirts here from Monday evening to Tuesday early hours.
“More than 5,000 police personnel are providing security cover to the President during his two-day stay at the Circuit House here. Nearly 2,000 police personnel will create security cover for President Kovind in the city limits and another 3,700 police personnel will be on-duty for the two scheduled visits of the President.” a source familiar with the developments told DC.
Traffic diversions are also announced by the police. Vehicles heading to the Isha Foundation from Mettupalayam must reach Boluvampatti via Avinashilingam University, GCT junction, Lawley road, P N Pudur and Vadavalli. Vehicles from Avinashi road must reach Cowley brown road through brook bond road and are advised to use the same lawley road, P.N Pudur, Vadavalli route to reach Isha Yoga Center.
Meanwhile, vehicles from Pollachi road must travel through the L&T by-pass road, Madukkarai market road, Kovaipudur pirvu, Madampatti via Sundakkamuthur and from Pachapalayam reach Isha Yoga Center. Similarly, vehicles travelling on the Palakkad road can use the Sundakkamuthur to Pachapalayam route to reach Isha Yoga Center to participate in the Maha Shivratri celebrations.
When the President returns to Circuit house after attending the Maha Shivratri celebrations, the Circuit House road will be closed for public, police said....
