Hyderabad: Discom employee involved in chain snatching held
Hyderabad: A contract employee of Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL), who was accused of seven chain snatching offences in 45 days was arrested by the Shankarpally police on Sunday.
Police seized 100 gm gold and a bike from accused Kavali Srinivas and remanded him to judicial custody.
Since January this year, seven cases of chain snatching were reported at Siddipet, Sangareddy and Cyberabad police commissionerates where women were targetted.
The Special Operations Team of Cyberabad was put on the job to nab the suspect. He was identified using CCTV images, intercepted at BDL crossroads in Shankarpally when he was riding his motorcycle, and taken into custody. Srinivas confessed to snatching chains, police said.
Shamshabad DCP N. Prakash Reddy said that Srinivas, 36, was a contract worker at TSSPDCL. He was working as a collection agent at Gandimaisamma in Suraram. As he was running short of money, Srinivas used the money collected from citizens for his personal use and did not report to work.
“Srinivas was consuming toddy at a shop in Vikarabad when he read a report on how women were being targeted by chain snatchers. Inspired by this, he decided to snatch gold chains. A bike (TS 08 FC 6705) and a gold chain were recovered from him,” said Mr Prakash Reddy.
