CHENNAI: A superstructure on the samadhi of Kanchi Shankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi who was interred besides the Brindavan (final resting place) of his guru Maha Periyava in Kancheepuram near here, will be ready in about two months from now.
The Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt sthapathis have been entrusted with the task of design the superstructure for the 69th pontiff who passed away on Feb.29. “Mostly, it will be the same design that was followed for the Brindavanam of Maha Periyava (Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi) but is likely to be shorter (in height),” says Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt Manager Mr. Sundaresa Iyer.
To a query, he replied, “our sthapathis will decide on the design and we will work out the cost of the project. It will take a minimum of two months to complete the construction.”
He said the public have been allowed to visit the samadhi. “But this will be discussed with the Bala Periyava (Sri Vijayendra Saraswathi, the 70thShankaracharya) after his 13 days of mourning is completed,” he added.
The superstructure will be attractive one and it will grace along with the structure erected for Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi was laid to rest in Kancheepuram on March 1.Meanwhile, the Jankalyan, Chennai, in association with the Keelapattu villagers has decided to install a statue of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi at the Sri Tripurasundari Samedha Chandramouli temple, Nagari, on March 25. “This will coincide with Navami day. The statue will be one-and-a-half feet high and around one foot wide. It will be in sitting posture,” says V. Subramanian, secretary of Jankalyan.
