Hyderabad: Sriramnagar yet to get reservoir

Residents have been waiting for completion of the reservoir for the past two years.

Hyderabad: Residents of Sriramnagar colony would have to put up with drinking water problems till April when HMWSSB was expected to complete the reservoir work.

The problem could be severe in areas of Sriramnagar colony B and C block in Kondapur. The colony was set up about two decades ago and so far the residents could not get Manjeera water. They have been waiting for the completion of the reservoir for the past two years. The 20-million litre reservoir was being built at a cost '3 crore.

Techie and area resident M. Sunil said, “This is a problem we have been facing for pretty long. Work related to overhead tank started a couple of years ago and was supposed to be completed by December. But that has not happened.”

A couple of residents reached out to officials on twitter requesting them to provide water in the colony at the earliest. They had been relying on water tankers who made money out of this crisis.

Another techie said, “The water tanker people are looting us, taking advantage of the situation. We are spending thousands to buy water. Unlike last summer, this year we don’t want to see water tankers on our streets.”

The pipeline works has been completed in Sriramnagar colony B and C block. HMWSSB officials said that there was no delay in the project as the agreement period itself was till February. To reduce the low pressure, an overhead tank was being constructed with a 22-metre head.

A Water Board official said, “The bottom slab has been laid and the sump is ready. We will be completing the works and commissioning the overhead tank in the first week of April.” Meanwhile, works of the reservoir at the Golden Tulip Kondapur which was initiated in November, would also be completed in April.
