Hyderabad: Vasavi Junior College key players arrested
Hyderabad: Rachakonda police arrested the principal cum correspondent V Seenaiah and partner B Shyamsunder Reddy of Vasavi Junior College on Friday. The police is also probing the role of the Intermediate board in the scam due to which more than 250 students could not appear for the final examination. Another partner, Kapil Goud, is absconding.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagawat said that the college management collected Rs 3,500 from each candidate towards examination fees against the actual fee of Rs 360. They also collected admission fee from all the students. But they did not remit the fee to the board and cheated the students due to which the students were not issued hall tickets and could not appear for the final examinations.
“We are verifying if the admissions are genuine or if they were given admission in distance mode or some other modes. Investigation is on to verify role of officials from Board of Intermediate who are alleged to be hand in glove with the suspects and also Sri Medha College management that was earlier located in the campus and leased it to Seenaiah.” said the Commissioner.
Police, on inquiry, found that Seenaiah who owned Varun Junior College in Suryapet also resorted to irregularities in admissions and even paid Rs 15 lakh as a fine to the board of Intermediate in 2015. Later he closed the college in Suryapet and started the Vanasthalipuram college with a new name Vasavi Junior College. They leased Sri Medha Junior College from one Srinivas Naidu for 2016-17 academic year and began functioning with 144 students in I year and 102 students in II year. The students did not appear for the Human sciences examinations in December 2016 and also for the practicals in January, but neither they nor their parents raised any objections. Police found from the board that Vasavi Junior College did not fulfill the requirements for permission. Meanwhile Board of Intermediate lodged a complaint against the college management on the irregularities and a case was registered on Friday.
