Uralungal now in top notch

First non-governmental institution to be a total solution provider.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has appointed Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) as a total solution provider (TSP) in the IT/ITES sector, making it easier for the cooperative to get government works.

It was for the first time that a non-government institution being appointed as a TSP and the IT department order says it took the decision ‘as a special case’, based on its request. With the TSP status, government departments could even award IT/ITES projects to ULCCS without tendering process.

Agencies like Keltron, Centre for Development of Imaging Technology, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and National Informatics Centre are the existing TSPs.

The government also considered the solutions the cooperative’s IT division had already provided. “Our IT division with about 150 engineers have already developed various applications for government agencies, including the online ticket reservation and GPS project for KSRTC.

Many of these projects were being done through Keltron. Since we have now got TSP status, we may be able to deal directly with government agencies,” its technology division head T. Jithesh said.

The ULCCS’s Cyber Park in Kozhikode was inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee last week. The opposition allege that the state government was wrongly taking credit for its achievement.
