Money meant for newly-added villages diverted: NR Ramesh
Bengaluru: Former corporator and BJP city unit secretary N.R. Ramesh alleged that the money earmarked for the development of newly-added villages to the BBMP has been diverted thereby hampering development of these areas.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Ramesh said that Rs 41 crore has been diverted for infrastructure works in Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency. When BBMP was formed in 2007, seven city municipal corporation, one town municipal corporation and 110 villagers were merged to erstwhile BMP.
An exclusive allocation under the finance head P-2654 has allocated and Rs 253 crore was earmarked for comprehensive development of these 110 villages for 10 years to bring them on par with the other core areas. Since these villages did not have sanitary and water supply connection, an exclusive fund was set up. These villages were spread over nine constituencies.
But Rajarajeshwarinagar MLA Munirathna has unauthorisedly diverted Rs 42 crore to his constituency. This has been supported and approved by Chief Minister, BBMP Commissioner and urban development authorities. Criminal complaints have been registered against them and related documents have been sent to Enforcement Directorate too, he said. Of the 110 villages, not a single one falls under the Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency.
