Rs 19.6 crore water pipelines for Bholakpur

The groundwater has been contaminated by units that process animal skins, bones and fat, and also plastic factories.

Hyderabad: In a major relief to Bholakpur residents, the Metro Water and Sewerage Board has decided to lay water and sewage pipelines costing Rs 19.6 crore. The area near Musheerabad depends on groundwater for drinking.

The groundwater has been contaminated by units that process animal skins, bones and fat, and also plastic factories. A decade ago, 14 people died and over 200 were hospitalised after drinking contaminated water.

Officials said that the new network will meet the needs of residents living on about 4.2 sq. km. They said that the proposals had been prepared and tenders would be floated in a couple of days.

Laying the water pipelines would cost the board Rs 15.1 crore and sewage lines, Rs 4.5 crore
