Weakening of CPI won't help unity of left: Kanam Rajendran

The severest criticism was against Tripunuithura MLA M. Swaraj for completely ignoring the CPI and its cadres.

Kochi: The CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran said that the CPM should not think that weakening his party would in anyway help in strengthening left unity. Inaugurating the delegate session of the ongoing district conference of the party on Saturday, Kanam said the CPI did not harbour the notion that a weak CPM would help in fortifying left unity in the country.

The CPI leader also underlined that the unity of the secular and democratic forces was essential for the defeat of the BJP and communal fascist forces. The political report presented in the meeting made several criticisms against CPM MLAs in the district as well as the functioning of the state government.

The severest criticism was against Tripunuithura MLA M. Swaraj for “completely ignoring” the CPI and its cadres. Describing Swaraj as the “most arrogant personality”, the report castigated him for his reluctance to acknowledge CPI while having no qualms in accepting their votes. The delegates also criticized the functioning of the state government in many areas and attacked the performance of the four CPI ministers. The four ministers had failed to have any initiative for any independent programmes, they said.
